Lock cover plate
Central Europe, 16th century
Malleable iron. The hammered rectangular plate, pierced and decorated with ironwork straps and an ornamental band along the edges, served as the strike plate for the upper lock on the inside of the door. Hammered key guide with a flame-shaped pierced decoration and reeding. Decorative band of engraved stylised grape leaves. Cut opening for the keyhole.
